In the development of SafeTrakX, our all-in-one workplace safety application, the Field Level Hazard Assessment (FLHA) module was the foundation. It's not just a digital form—it's a dynamic tool designed to improve hazard awareness, streamline hazard reporting, and enhance emergency readiness. From concept to deployment, it followed a structured PMBOK® Guide approach.
1. Initiating: Defining Purpose and Stakeholders
The vision was clear:
"Enable workers to quickly identify hazards using the energy model, document controls, and respond effectively to emergencies—anywhere, anytime."
We engaged stakeholders early, from frontline operators to HSE managers.
2. Planning: Scope and Risk Management
Key deliverables via a Work Breakdown Structure: Energy Model Hazard Identification (classifying by energy source with a "Sticky Stuff That Can Kill You" mindset), Cloud-Based Storage, PDF Export & Sharing, and ERP Integration for nearest-hospital lookup. Risks included data privacy, user adoption, and offline functionality in remote areas.
3. Executing: Building with an Agile Mindset
Two-week Agile sprints delivered: a Hazard Identification Engine, Cloud Sync, a PDF & Share feature (logo, assessor, date, hazards, controls), and a Nearest Hospital Finder integrated with GPS. Stakeholder demos after each sprint kept the project aligned.
4. Monitoring & Controlling
Jira boards for task management, User Acceptance Testing for every build, and change requests reviewed by a mini Change Control Board to avoid scope creep.
5. Closing: Deliverables and Lessons Learned
Field workers praised the quick hazard selection; supervisors valued cloud access for audits; emergency planners valued the hospital locator. Lessons learned: offline-first design and simple user flows for high-pressure environments.
Conclusion
